Our Success is Your Joy and Your Joy is Our Pride!
July 3, 2014Behind The Scene
March 20, 2019One of the most memorable and emotional moments of any wedding is the moment where the bride and groom hold hands, walk together to the dance floor, look each other in the eyes, and dance…They have their own 2-3 minutes of pure romance…pure connection that stops the clock from ticking…
Dancing your first dance with your soul mate on your wedding day is one of the highlights of the night if selected wisely.
Before we get to the actual songs (on my next planned post), here are 7 very important guidelines to how to choose YOUR First Dance:
1. The Lyrics
The First Dance song needs to speak to you. It needs to speak YOU. It needs to tell YOUR story. It needs to say what you can’t say, or won’t dare to say in every day life but burns inside of you. It needs to speak your feelings at that moment (or at least what you think you’re going to feel at that moment…). Lyrics are the tool to use in order to express those overwhelming feelings you will experience that night, and every night… Choosing a song that is the closest to expressing those feelings would be a wise choice.
2. A Memory
The First Dance can be a song that represents a big moment in your relationship. It can be the song that was played when you first met, the song that you listened to when you sat together that day on the beach watching that stunning sunset, or the song that was playing when he proposed! It can make you relive that same moment all over again on the dance floor! Not only that, it can also bring all those feelings to the hearts of your guests who are watching you with teary eyes…
3. The Melody
In every good song, the melody supports the lyrics and brings the story out to make it complete. Choose that song that has that lyrics/melody combination to make the best out of that rare moment.
4. The Music
The arrangement of your first dance can make the whole difference!! Here a great band (like us) has a huge advantage!! You can pick a song that in its original version is a rock song and make it completely different! A new rendition of that song can make it YOUR special song! A good band can take that song and play it in a way that will shock and move everyone in the room! If the lyrics are right, and the melody is right, the sky is the limit! Your creativity and your band’s creativity comes to play and brings your uniqueness and character to that dance floor.
5. Humor
As I mentioned before, some couples choose their First Dance to show their character. That character can definitely be great humor! If you’re that kind of couple, you can choose a song, or a combination of songs to create your little medley and your own story. That choice can be a refreshing one! It can be unexpected and unique by itself, so let your imagination go wild and share your ideas with your band leader to create that vibe you want to create.

6. Multicultural Weddings
In my experience, most couples want to incorporate their heritage and their culture into their wedding night. That can be incorporated into your First Dance song choice as well. You can choose a song in a different language than English that is a hit in your birth country, you can choose a traditional cultural song, or a song that has a mix of English AND your parents’ cultural background…Anything is legit and great! The rule of thumb is: if it makes your heart pound, and if it’s meaningful to YOU, it’s probably a good option to seriously consider. Consult your band leader for further experienced input, but the final decision is always yours, so you have to keep true to yourself and go with what you feel is right.
7. Is it wrong? Is it right?
Dear couple, at the end of the day, your wedding is yours!!! You make the rules, you color your wedding in your colors of character and joy! Whatever works for you, will resonate to others. If your guests see how thrilled and excited you both are to dance to your First Dance song, those feelings will come across and make your crowd emotional and completely involved as well.
Good luck and don’t forget to enjoy the journey!!!
Love,
